Wittmann Battenfeld Inc. will hold an open house June 5-6 to show off its 20,000-square-foot expansion to build larger-tonnage injection presses in Torrington, Conn., the U.S. headquarters of Austria-based Wittmann Battenfeld GmbH.

The company has invested more than $3 million on the addition, which can assemble injection molding presses with clamping forces up to 850 metric tons. The Torrington plant, which measures a total of 90,000 square feet, also will have enough space to assemble complete packages of the larger machines, with auxiliary equipment and robots, which Wittmann Battenfeld also manufactures.

Wittmann Battenfeld also will run eight injection molding work cells at the open house, including demonstrations of liquid silicone rubber molding, all-electric and hydraulic presses, micromolding and vertical injection presses, the RJG cavity pressure and temperature monitoring system, gas insert molding, in-mold labeling, and new robots and robot control software.

Wittmann Group General Manager Michael Wittmann will officially open the expansion. Other industry leaders also will speak about technology issues.
